คนธรรมดา ที่ไม่ใช่โปรแกรมเมอร์จะสามารถเข้าไปแก้ไข Registry ได้ไหม ? คำตอบคือ ได้แน่นอนครับ เพราะ Registry นั้นไม่ได้เป็นไฟล์ที่ลึกลับซับซ้อนจนผู้ใช้อย่างเราไม่สามารถเข้าถึงมันได้ และทางบริษัทไมโครซอฟท์เอง ก็ต้องการให้ผู้ใช้วินโดวส์สามารถเข้าไปแก้ไขค่าต่างๆ ของ Registry บางตัวได้ เหมือนกับเครื่องยนต์รถ ถ้าไม่มีกระโปรงรถที่เปิดได้ คุณก็ไม่สามารถเข้าไปเปลี่ยนหัวเทียนเติมน้ำมันเครื่องได้ และต้องส่งกลับโรงงานเพื่อซ่อม และระบบปฏิบัติการวินโดวส์ก็ฉันนั้น ก็ต้องเปิดให้ผู้ใช้เข้าไปแก้ไข Registry เพื่อแก้ปัญหาบางอย่างที่อาจจะเกิดขึ้นได้

คำถามต่อไปก็คือ แล้วจะเข้าไปดูอย่างไรล่ะ ผมก็ตอบให้ว่าถ้าจะเข้าไปดู Registry ข้างในนั้น จำเป็นต้องมีตัวกลางที่อ่านไฟล์ Registry และตัวกลางที่ว่าก็คือ โปรแกรมที่มีชื่อว่า Registry Editor ที่สามารถอ่านและเขียนข้อมูล Registry ได้อย่างง่ายดาย และวิธีการเข้าไปใช้งาน Registry ก็ให้คลิ้กไปที่เมนู Start เลือกคำสั่ง Run แล้วพิมพ์คำว่า regedit ลงไป พร้อมทั้งกดปุ่ม Enter หลังจากนั้นจะมีหน้าต่างที่หลายคนไม่คุ้นเคยหน้าปรากฏขึ้นมา

ขออธิบายพื้นฐานของการแก้ไข Registry ให้คุณผู้อ่านทราบกันสักนิด ก่อนที่เราจะไปเริ่มลงมือกันจริงๆ โดยปกติการตั้งค่าต่างๆ ใน Registry นั้นจะแบ่งออกเป็น 5 หัวข้อหลักๆ ซึ่งจะอยู่ในรูปแบบของ “tree” หรือต้นไม้ที่แตกสาขาเป็นกิ่งก้านออกไป โดยภายในแต่ละกิ่งก้านนั้นก็จะมีหัวข้อย่อยๆ ที่อยู่ลึกเข้าไปอีกหลายชั้น ซึ่งในบางกรณี คุณอาจจะต้องเปิดลึกเข้าไปจนมือแทบหงิก ถึงจะเจอหัวข้อย่อยที่ลึกที่สุด เรียกได้ว่าข้อมูลใน Registry นั้นมหาศาลเกินกว่าที่คนหนึ่งคนจะเรียนรู้ได้หมดเลยล่ะครับ

เมื่อเข้าใจในระบบต้นไม้แล้ว หากคุณต้องการจะสำรองข้อมูลที่อยู่ใน Registry ไม่ว่าจะเป็นหัวข้อย่อยใดก็ตาม ก็สามารถทำการ Backup ได้ด้วยคำสั่ง “Export” โดยคลิ้กไปที่เมนู File แล้วเลือก Export คุณก็จะได้ไฟล์ Registry ของกิ่งก้านนั้นเก็บสำรองเอาไว้แล้ว

ไฟล์ Registry จะลงท้ายด้วย . reg ซึ่งเวลาคุณคลิ้กเมาส์ปุ่มขวาที่ไฟล์ประเภทนี้ ก็จะปรากฏเมนู edit ขึ้นมา เพื่อให้คุณเรียกโปรแกรม Notepad ออกมาทำการแก้ไขค่าต่างๆ ได้อย่างง่ายดาย เพียงแต่การแก้ไขนั้นต้องทำภายใต้โครงสร้างของ Registry ที่ถูกต้องเท่านั้น หากแก้ผิดพลาดไปแม้แต่นิดเดียว ก็จะไม่สามารถนำข้อมูลกลับ Registry ได้ … เพราะฉะนั้น ก่อนที่จะลงมือแก้ไขอะไร ควรจะทำการสำรองข้อมูลใน Registry เอาไว้ทุกครั้งนะครับ!

หากการแก้ไขค่าใน Registry ของคุณทำให้เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์เกิดปัญหา และต้องการย้อนกลับไปสู่สภาพปกติ คุณก็ต้องใช้คำสั่ง Import เพื่อนำเอาข้อมูลเก่ากลับมาเหมือนเดิม (คุณจะใช้คำสั่ง Import ได้ก็ต่อเมื่อทำการสำรอง Registry เอาไว้ก่อนแล้ว) โดยไปที่เมนู File เลือก Import แล้วเปิดหาไฟล์ Registry ที่ต้องการ *** ้กลับคืนมา แต่โดยปกติแล้ว คุณสามารถดับเบิลคลิ้กที่ไฟล์ Registry ที่สำรองมาก่อนหน้านี้ได้เลย แล้วกดปุ่ม Yes โดยไม่ต้องมาคลิ้กที่เมนู Import ให้เสียเวลา เพราะผลลัพธ์ของสองวิธีนี้เหมือนกันเปี๊ยบเลยครับ

เพียง 4 ขั้นตอนข้างต้นนี้คุณก็ใกล้ที่จะเป็นเซียนวินโดวส์อีกขึ้นแล้วล่ะครับ เพราะคุณสมบัติอย่างหนึ่งที่เซียนวินโดวส์ต้องทำเป็นนั้น ก็คือการเข้ามาแก้ไข Registry ได้นั้นเอง เพราะหากขึ้นชื่อว่าเซียนคอมพิวเตอร์แต่ทำไม่เป็น ก็ต้องขอปลดคำว่าเซียนเลยทีเดียวครับ
